Benjamin C. Tancinco, M.D, devoted husband and patriarch, died peacefully at home from complications of Parkinson’s disease on May 20, 2018. Born June 23, 1925, the son of Mariano Tancinco and Maria Cruz, Ben was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alma and sister Marina. He is survived by his sister, Azucena Reyes; brother, Mario (Leticia) Tancinco; children, Ben (Debra) and Mary Jane; grandsons, Ben (Jackie) and Jon and their mother, Judy. Ben received his medical degree from the University of the Philippines and emigrated to the U.S. in 1952 where he served his residency at Cleveland Metropolitan Hospital. After moving his family to Toledo, Ohio, he practiced pathology at Maumee Valley and also served as the Chief of Medical Staff at Wood County Hospitals for several years. Later, he founded Westgate Laboratory, which served many local physician offices. He was a founding member of the Filipino Association of Northwest Ohio in the late 1960s and stood at the forefront of SCORE, their humanitarian foundation which supports medical missions to the Philippines and needy areas in South America. With a blessed life and hard work he prospered, sharing his good fortune with others through many charitable contributions. An avid gardener, tennis player, and auto enthusiast, Ben passed on his passions to his children and grandsons. He traveled the globe with his wife Alma, but he always took comfort in returning home to friends and family. Visitation hours will be held Friday at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) from 1-4 p.m. with a 3:30 p.m. service. The family requests any donations be sent to SCORE (Special Commission on Relief and Education of the Filipino Association of Toledo) or the Ohio Parkinson’s Foundation.
