Benjamin Franklin Boyer, 75, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2023. He was born on October 15, 1947 in Wilmington, Delaware to his late parents, Charles and Elva (Kramer) Boyer. Ben graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School College Prep in 1965. At the age of 25 he enlisted in the United State Marine Corps where he served as a Sargent and was trained in small weapons.
After his Honorable Discharge he began his career in the civilian workforce in the technical and electrical industries. Ben began his corporate career at GE, after leaving GE he joined Siemens. When Siemens closed the service portion of their business, Ben was the service manager. He took this opportunity to purchase the service business from Siemens and changed the name to Saginaw Electric Motor, becoming the owner and operational manager from 1988 - 1995. In 1995 he was hired by Kiemle-Hankins Company as a Technical Specialist-Power Services employee until he retired in 2017. After retirement Ben decided sitting at home was not for him and worked part time for Auto Zone.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Elva Boyer, brother Charles S. Boyer, Jr. and sister Carol Gamble.
Ben is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Sharon (Murphy) Boyer. They loved spending time together and going to the car races in Milan, Norwalk, Michigan International Speedway and many more. They both had a love of speed and racing in common. When they were younger they were avid jet skiers. Ben shared his passion for raising show dogs with Sharon and together they raised and showed three Great Danes.
Ben is also survived by his daughters, Maryjo Smith, Stephanie Boyer, Heather Wendzik, and his son Adam Wendzik. Also his Grandchildren, Shawn Boyer, Sydney Coppens, Ashlynn Wendizk and many dear relatives and friends.
His children have many fond memories of their Dad. Watching NASCAR with him, he had a knack for turning Sundays into Fundays. And the times they had to call the neighbors to warn them they were going to start the race cars that he and Uncle Chuck were working on to check the engine, very loud indeed. He was big on making special dinners for birthdays and Mother’s Day. He was really good at making the best comfort food. Ben was always looking for things to do as a family. They have great memories of watching the Buffalo Bills with him while he yelled at the TV. They got their love for training and showing dogs, and all animals from their Dad. Ben enjoyed breeding and showing Dobermans and Miniature Pinschers around the country. He also liked to bowl and even founded Tri City Youth Classic Bowling League, where he was passionate about coaching the youth. His love for music and movies is shared by all of them. Mostly they will cherish how smart and fun he was and how he made every effort to keep their blended family together.
Later in his life Ben had a conversion of heart and decided to become Catholic and was constantly learning about his faith in God. He was a proud member of Friends of Bill for 33 years. He had a witty sense of humor and didn't hesitate to tease someone in a nice way. Ben was truly a likeable well rounded man who was loved by his entire family and he will be dearly missed.
