Becky (Smith) Puffenberger, 72, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025. Born on July 14, 1953, in Toledo, Ohio, Becky was the daughter of Walter and Marie (Stark) Smith. She grew up in Toledo, graduated from Whitmer High School, and built a life defined by love and family.
A devoted stay-at-home mom for many years, Becky later found great joy in her work as a teacher assistant at St. Joseph Catholic School in Sylvania, where she spent 18 meaningful years nurturing and guiding young students. Her warmth and spirit made her a beloved presence among children, parents, and colleagues alike.
Becky met the love of her life, Rick Puffenberger, and the two shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a home filled with music, hospitality, and open doors. Becky’s love of live music was legendary, she and Rick never passed up a good concert or local jazz night. Becky loved to dance. Whether in the car, in the kitchen, or anywhere a song followed her, Becky brought joy and rhythm everywhere she went.
Becky was an avid Toledo Rockets basketball fan. She never missed an opportunity to attend a men’s or women’s basketball game.
Travel was another passion they shared, and their adventures took them on Viking cruises to Europe, sunny trips to Florida, and cherished Labor Day family getaways to Saugatuck, Michigan. Becky had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, and her home became a gathering place for friends, family, and the many people who were drawn to her vibrant spirit. She treasured her close-knit circle of friends, including the beloved group she fondly referred to as the “cult.”
Becky is survived by her devoted husband, Rick; her children, Mike (Kathryn) Puffenberger and Katie (Rob) Wambo; her grandchildren, Leah, Jack, Nora, and Mason; and her stepmother, Rhonda Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Becky will be remembered for her radiant smile, her generosity, her love of music and movement, and the countless moments of joy she brought to others. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored and the many lives she touched.
