Beatrice Jeanette Piehl

Beatrice J. Piehl was born on May 4, 1936 to Ruth and Paul Henritzy in New Brunswick, NJ. Sadly, Ruth died the following day, and Paul made the difficult decision to give his daughter up for adoption, as he had 3 older children to care for. Rev. Otto and Helen Wortman adopted Bea at 10 days old and took her back to Ohio, where she grew up in various small towns and churches.

Bea married John A. Piehl on July 7, 1956. In 1957, she graduated from Flower Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed her career working at Flower Hospital in postpartum, Parkview Hospital in centralized scheduling, and Aldersgate UMC as Parish Nurse.

She was a longtime member of Aldersgate UMC, active in choir, bells, UMW and her passion, Parish Nurse Ministry. She started (in Toledo) the Parish Nurse Association, now known as Faith Community Nurses and Health Ministry Association.

Bea had many hobbies, including crochet, counted cross-stitch, reading, and playing the piano.

Bea was preceded in death by both sets of parents, brother Dick, and sisters Dot, Peggy, and Marianne. She is survived by her four children, Jack (Dorothy) Piehl, Michael (Jeri) Piehl, Dave (Jane) Piehl, and Diane (Ron) Ley. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters, her brother Paul (Linda) Wortman, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Ohio Living Swand Creek and Ohio Living Hospice for taking good care of Bea.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 25, from 4-7PM at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue and a celebration of life will be on Saturday, September 26 at 11AM (with visitation from 10-11AM), at Aldersgate UMC, 4030 Douglas Rd, Toledo.

Internment will be at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Aldersgate UMC or Faith Community Nurses and Health Ministry Association.
