Baxter J. Bell, Sr.

January 24, 1935 — January 11, 2011

Baxter J. Bell, Sr., age 75, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. A lifelong resident of Toledo, Baxter was a 1953 graduate of DeVilbiss High School and a 1958 graduate of the University of Toledo with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked in the chemical engineering field for 17 years before pursuing a career in the investment brokerage business where he worked until retiring in 2002. Baxter attended the University of Toledo on academic and athletic scholarship. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon National Fraternity and remained an active alum. Baxter was a life member of the University of Toledo Alumni Organization, a supporter and season ticket holder of the UT basketball and football teams, and a member of the Rockets Downtown Coaches Organization. He was a member of the ROTC while attending college and served active duty at Fort Sill, OK and Fort Knox, KY after graduating. He continued his service in the Army Reserves after his active duty commitment was completed. Baxter attended St. Piux X Catholic Church with his wife, Mary. He enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and the occasional poker game and also enjoyed reading world history, listening to jazz, attending jazz concerts and the theater, and discussing politics. He loved to travel, especially his annual trips to Hilton Head, SC and Destin, FL, his travels abroad, and golf trips with his golfing friends. Most of all, Baxter loved his family. He was a great companion, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Baxter is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Baxter, Jr. Raven, David Vicki, and Eric Brigette Bell; and grandchildren, Stuart, Alex, Harrison, Francesca, Elizabeth, Sydney, Sam, and Kate.
