Barry Greenblatt

Barry Richard Greenblatt, age 65, passed away at his home on Thursday July 31, 2014,  The son of Alex and Marye Greenblatt, he was born  June 9, 1949 in Detroit, MI.  Growing up in Detroit, he was a graduate of Mumford High School where he played on the tennis team.  He attended Oakland Community College and Eastern Michigan University.  He married Judith Green on March 4, 1972 and they raised 3 wonderful children.  Barry worked at the Bagel Factory in Ann Arbor.  Later he took a chance with his wedding money and Barry and Peter Johnson opened The Bagel Place in Sylvania, OH, which later became Barry Bagels and grew to 6 locations.  He was a member of Temple Shomer Emunim.  Barry enjoyed skiing, traveling, movies and spending time at Catawba.  He had an affinity for diet coke and cell phones, almost to a fault and he loved his dogs. Barry was a very generous but humble man.  He volunteered and participated in many different nonprofit organizations and received several community awards for his efforts.  His death is a true loss to the community.  His best assets are his family, whom he loved dearly.  He treasured his grandsons and the time they spent together. A devoted family man, he will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Judith; children, Mark (Stephanie) Greenblatt, Dr. Mindy (Jason) Streem, Marnie (Daniel) Sulzer; grandsons, Mason, Spencer, Nolan Greenblatt, Sam, Oliver Streem, Brady, Benjamin, Joshua Sulzer; brother, Leslie Greenblatt.  He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held on Sunday at 1:00 PM August 3, 2014 at Temple Shomer Emunim, 6453 Sylvania Ave Sylvania, OH 43560.  Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.  The family will observe Shivah and receive friends at the Greenblatt home from 6:00-8:30PM on Monday and Tuesday.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider The Barry Greenblatt Fund at Temple Shomer Emunim.  Services provided by Walker Funeral Home 419-841-2422.  Condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
