Barney Wisinger Md

Barney M Wisinger MD, age 93, passed away on June 19, 2023 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Dr. Wisinger was an internal medicine physician with a specialty in pulmonary medicine.

Dr. Wisinger was born and raised in Pine Bluff, AR. Dr. Wisinger attended Pine Bluff High School graduating in 1947 at age 17. He then graduated from Hendrix College in AR with a degree in chemistry at age 20 in 1950. Barney graduated from The University of Arkansas Medical School with honors at age 24 in 1954.

Dr. Wisinger completed his internship at Philadelphia General Hospital and his residency at The University of Arkansas Hospital in 1956. Dr. Wisinger, along with his first wife Meta Querker, travelled to Germany, where he served as a physician army captain until 1958 and he remained in the reserves until 1962.

Dr. Wisinger and his family then moved to Toledo in 1962 at the opening of the then Medical College of Ohio where he taught at The Medical College as a professor for 40 years retiring in 2007. He was on the medical staff at The Toledo Hospital for 50 years from 1962-2012.

Barney and his second wife Prudie travelled extensively to China, Russia, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania, Egypt, Greece, Great Britain and Scotland in particular in the 1970s and 1980s. They made many trips to civil war battlefields as Dr. Wisinger was an avid Civil War buff with many books on the subject.

Dr. Wisinger and Prudie were animal lovers, especially their dogs and several cats. He was an avid fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks. He was a member of The American Medical Association, The Toledo Academy of Medicine and an alumnus of the Phi Chi Medical fraternity.

Dr. Wisinger is survived by three children whom he had with his first wife, Meta Querker (predeceased): Erika (Jan) Rizzo of The Villages, FL, David (Darla) Wisinger of Phoeniz, AZ, and Randall (Sharon) Wisinger of Virginia Beach, VA, six grandchildren and two great grandsons.

Dr. Wisinger was predeceased by his second wife Prudence Seeger. They had no children. There will not be a formal funeral service.
