Barbara (Elsie) Devenha Zimmerman, age 96, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2017 in the care of her loving family. She was born July 27, 1921 in Devonport, North England to the late William Sydney and Elsie Louisa Smith. Barbara served in the British Army Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II attaining the rank of Lance Corporal. She maintained dual citizenship in the U.S. and England, was an emeritus member of the Daughters of the British Empire, and loved everything Royal Family. She was a 50-year member of the Ladies of the Oriental Shrine of North America, Dendarah Court. When asked, the secret to her long life was “a sip of Bailey’s here and there.” Barbara is survived by her children, Robert K. (Sharol) Zimmerman, Kevin Paul (Anne) Zimmerman Sr. and Cheryl L. (John) Aldrich; nine grandchildren; and twelve and 3/4 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her devoted husband of 34 years, George Zimmerman; brothers, William and Basil; and sisters, Winford, Yvonne and Ena. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 noon till 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). Interment Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her amazing caregivers over the last several months, granddaughter Devon Iossi, the Guardian Angels and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
