Barbara Mae Sass

Barbara M. Sass, 93, formerly of Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio, died Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Orchard Villa Nursing Home, Oregon, Ohio, where she had resided for the past 4 years. Barbara was born in Toledo on February 28, 1928, the daughter of William J. and Evelyn J. (Prast) Harmon. She graduated from Whitney Vocational High School and went to work as a bookkeeper. She owned the former Spice Bar on Bennett Ave. for 10 years and later was a customer service associate for Radio Shack for 15 years. Barbara was a dedicated member of Pilgrim Church, on Sylvania Avenue where she volunteered with the church, Feed Your Neighbor, Project Dignity and Kids Without Grandparents programs. She was also active in the AM Vets Auxilliary Post #52 volunteering for the Special Olympics and Paws for a Cause programs. Barbara also enjoyed her memberships in the American Legion Auxilliary, Arthur Dailey Post and the VFW Auxilliary Post 5536. For many years she was active in the Lucas County Memorial Day Association, the Toledo Coin Club, and loved to garden. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Sandra Sass-Everhart; daughter in law, Christie Sass; grandchildren, Gary (Veronica) Sass, Jr., Jeshua Sass, Nicole (Tim) Sass-Sampson, Jessica Farlow and Robert Farlow; great-grandchildren, Eddie, Evelyn, Alex, Haley, Emily, Erica, Sara, Quinn, Zachary, Mackenzie, David and Skylar; and great-great-grandson, Eli. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gary Louis Sass, Sr.; grandson, Stephen Sass; and sister, Geraldine Harmon-Baker. Barbara graciously donated her body to the University of Toledo Medical Center for scientific research. Services may be scheduled at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Pilgrim Church, 1375 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH, 43612 or Orchard Villa Nursing Home Recreation Department, 2841 Munding Drive, Oregon, Ohio 43616.
