Barbara Jean Otte, age 84, died December 7, 2020 at Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria. She was born September 14, 1936 in Toledo to the late Paul and Alice (Peneff) Szymanski. Barbara attended Catholic school through the 8th grade and graduated from Harriet Whitney High School in 1954. During her high school years and after graduation, she taught art at the Toledo Museum of Art. She was a manager for JC Penney in Toledo for more than 20 years. In her free time, Barbara loved to travel, with the highlight being her month-long “island hopping” journey to Hawaii with her daughter Denise. Her greatest joy was sharing time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Denise Medvedov; son, Darrin Otte (Arlea); daughter-in-law, Linda Clouse Otte; grandchildren, Krissy, Devin, Josh, Kurt, Gabriel, Apple and Skylar; eighteen great grandchildren; and brother, Jim Szymanski (Phyllis). Barbara was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Carl E. Otte, in January 2017; and her son, David Otte, in October 2019. Due to the current circumstances, funeral services will be held privately. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org).
