Barbara Marie Heintschel

October 29, 1939 — January 11, 2023

Barbara “Barb” Marie Heintschel, 83, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her home on January 11, 2023. She was born October 29, 1939, in Toledo to her late parents, Sylvester and Wanda Rokicki.

Barb graduated from Central Catholic High School and went on to work primarily as a manager at K-Mart, then later for Macy’s as a retail clerk. She retired at the age of 68 after decades of commitment and hard work to both her job and her family. She had three children and was the best baker, cook, and crafter that they knew. She was always crocheting or sewing something new, whipping together some new dinner off the top of her head, or baking some of her infamous desserts, including apple pie and coffee cake. She was hardworking, classy, and carried an elegance in the way she walked. She had a special talent to make other people want to be better.

Barb is lovingly described as a “pistol”, who always had loads of energy to go around. She volunteered at church, would tutor school children, and would do everything around the house.

For the past decade, Barb has battled with Alzheimer’s. It had been a journey of struggles and frustrations for her, but also a beautiful journey of moments of joy, connection, and love. We had learned to live in her world. She still had so much to teach us about love, patience, and compassion. She was an excellent teacher.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. She is survived by her 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and handful of great grandchildren. She will be missed by her cat and love of her life, Winnie.

Services will be handled privately. Condolences can be sent at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
