Barbara J. Foote

Barbara Jean Foote, age 90, of Toledo died peacefully surrounded by her son and daughters on January 31, 2025. She was born on December 22, 1934, in Anniston, Alabama to Hicksie H. and Andrew J. Lawley. Barbara married the love of her life James (Jim) A. Foote on May 10, 1953.

Together, they raised their family in Maumee, Ohio and lived there until 2020.

Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, dedicated piano teacher, and cherished friend. She found joy in spending time with her family, traveling alongside her husband, playing bridge, reading, and refining her culinary skills.

Barbara received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music from The University of Toledo. She devoted over 50 years to teaching piano, sharing her gift of music with her students. Barbara was involved in music organizations such as the Ohio Music Teachers Association, Monday Musicale, and the Toledo Piano Teachers Association. She also performed in various piano recitals and special occasions at First Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member. After retiring from teaching, Barbara regularly played for church services at Ohio Living Swan Creek.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister-in-law Rena Foote, Barbara is survived by her son, Jeffrey Foote; daughters, Lisa Foote and Beverly Oatis; grandchildren, Ellen, Eric, and Celia Oatis; and brother-in-law Howard Foote of Tomales, CA.

The family extends their sincere thanks to Ohio Living Hospice and Barbara’s caregivers— Destiny, Jody, Nancy, and Teresa—for their compassionate care during the final months of her life. They would also like to offer special gratitude to Drema for her devoted care of both Jim and Barbara over the past five years.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio, on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM to celebrate and remember the life of Barbara. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, 200 E. Broadway, Maumee, Ohio, with a luncheon to follow. Barbara will be laid to rest at Tontogany Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, Ohio Living Swan Creek, or Ohio Living Hospice in honor of Barbara’s life and the care she received.
