Barbara E. Duncan, age 80, of Toledo passed away Monday, April 6, 2015 in Sunset House surrounded by her family. She was born August 15, 1934 in Toledo to Thura and Blenda Thomas. She was a 1952 graduate of DeVilbiss High School and a 1955 Registered Nurse graduate of The Toledo Hospital School of Nursing and earned both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of Toledo. Barb married the love of her life, C. Dale Duncan on February 4, 1955. She was an RN at the Toledo Hospital for many years, retiring as manager of employee health. While her children were growing up, she left nursing to be the Director of Religious Education at the First Unitarian Church of Toledo, then returning to her nursing career at The Toledo Hospital in 1983. She served on the boards of several organizations including Easter Seals, Y.W.C.A., The First Unitarian Church of Toledo, where she was District President, The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, where she was Regional Coordinator, and many positions for the Unitarian Universalist Association - Ohio Meadville District. Barb was also active in youth activities including Girl Scouts and Storer Camps. She was a strong advocate of womens rights as well as human rights and a very active member of the Toledo Scandinavian Club. The widow of C. Dale Duncan, Barb was also preceded in death by sisters, Thurayne Pimsleur and Rosanna LaChiana; and brother Joseph Thomas. Surviving are daughter, Michelle (David) Radtkin; son, David (Allison) Duncan; grandchildren, Jessica Lynn, Joshua Tyler (Jessica), Angela Marie, Katherine Anne, and Monica Renee; great-grandchildren, Jace and Jemma Radtkin; sister-in-law, Julie Duncan; many nieces, nephews and extended family members; also her life-long friends, Sam & Cathy Taylor, Marvel Meister, Chuck & Joanne Beavers, Connie Knight and Shirley Rentz. Friends may visit the family at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., (west of Corey Rd.) on Wednesday, April 8, from 3-8 pm, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 am. Interment to follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
