Mrs. Barbara C. Bay Britton, 99, of Sylvania, Ohio passed peacefully from this life on July 25, 2012 surrounded by her loving family at Sunset Village in Sylvania, Ohio. She was born in Marietta, Ohio on January 30, 1913 to Clara and Fred Bay. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1931 and then went on to earn her nursing cap from Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. On October 7, 1934, Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Martin L. Britton and moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1942. They enjoyed 57 years together until his death in May, 1991. Also preceding her in death are her five siblings, one great-grandson and Sharon Britton. Barb was an active volunteer for many years, she was involved with the American Red Cross, Girl Scouts and Sorority Alpha Tau Omega. One of her greatest memories was being a member of the Sweet Adelines and singing in the Sanctus Choir of Toledo. Barb was a passionate person, her love for sports, music, history radiated to all that knew her. Barb will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and love for her family. She was especially delighted to watch her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Sunset Village in Barlow and Northwest Ohio Hospice for their compassion and wonderful care. Surviving are her sons, Martin Penny Britton of Sylvania, Thomas Randy Britton, of Maumee, and her daughter Sharon Ed Ahlfors, of Sylvania Township; 7 grandchildren, Vicki Lem Britton-Robinson, Dawn Jay Williams, Tracey Britton, Kirk Jane Ahlfors, Julie Rob Girardot, Tom Britton, Stephani Gary Britton-Stiner and 9 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Kayla, and Ashlee Robinson, Brittani and Paige Williams, Jake and Reilly Girardot, Karlie Britton and Cooper Ahlfors. Also surviving: Sheryl Britton, as well as many dear nieces, nephews and friends. Friends may visit at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey on Friday, July 27, 2012 from 3 pm to 8 pm. with a prayer service beginning at 7pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 28, at 10:30 am at Mayfair-Plymouth Congregational Church, 5253 Bennett Rd. Toledo, Ohio. Burial will be private.
