Barbara Ann Schumacher

Barbara Ann Schumacher, 76, of Genoa, died Tuesday morning, October 4, 2016, at her residence. Barb was born August 12, 1940, in Ottawa County to Edward and Bertha (Gerkensmeyer) Hoeft. On April 2, 1960, in Genoa, Ohio, she married Russell J. Schumacher, who survives her. Barb was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Genoa. For 18 years she worked as produce manager at the former Lathams Market in Genoa and then as restaurant manager at Maumee Bay State Park for 10 years. Barb was also a homemaker, who loved gardening, baking, knitting, feeding the birds and helping on the farm. She loved cooking especially for others, whom she treated as family. Barb also always enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and attending her familys sports activities. In addition to her husband, Russ, Barb is survived by her daughter, Karen (Ed) Ellison of Elyria and son, Kent (Lana) Schumacher of Genoa, her grandchildren, Nicholas Taylor, Jaime (Cory) Brown, Brooke Schumacher and Adam (Rochelle) Schumacher, great granddaughter, Haedyn Schumacher, and one great granddaughter on the way. She is also survived by her siblings, Don (Lois) Hoeft, Mel (Judy) Hoeft, Brenda (Don) Fulkert, all of Genoa, Janet (Alan) Ruffell of Sylvania, Dennis Hoeft of Genoa, and Marlon (Karen) Hoeft of Sarasota, FL. Her parents and sister, Lynette Drummond, preceded her in death. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2016, at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington St., Genoa, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Clay Township Cemetery. Memorials for Barbara may be given to St. Johns UCC or Allen-Clay Joint Fire Dist. #36, 101 E. 6th St., Genoa, OH 43430.
