Assunta Rogheto Procaccini

September 26, 1930 — January 26, 2019

Assunta Rogheto Procaccini, 88, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019 surrounded by her children, grandsons, and son-and daughter-in-laws under excellent hospice care in her home. Assunta was born September 26, 1930 with her twin sister Emma in Urbania, Italy, province of Pesaro, region Le Marche, to Mariano and Margherita (Augostini) Rogheto. Assunta married the love of her life, Nello Procaccini on August 4, 1955 in Ostra, Italy, province of Ancona, region Le Marche. Assunta immigrated to America in February 1956 through New York City aboard the Andrea Doria. Assunta was educated in Italy where she worked for a family friend in a mercantile establishment; she loved to cook and share food with all those who entered her home and would cook for many community fundraisers and charitable events. She was involved in her children’s lives through her support of activities during and after school. Assunta’s home was a destination for her children and their friends as great food always accompanied the study sessions and fun weekend activities. Assunta loved knitting and crocheting (she made hundreds of lap blankets and afghans), gardening, both vegetables and flowers; she had beautiful flowers in her gardens both in Oregon and Toledo, Ohio. She loved watching daily mass preceded by saying a daily rosary; she cheered for the Pittsburg Steelers and was a huge fan of Franco Harris (she would say: he’s Italian!); she was impassioned about politics; and, she loved giving by sharing her time, talents, and treasure for the underserved. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was very proud to continue her faith by sending her children to parochial schools. Assunta was an active member of Cardinal Stritch High School Berretta Club. Assunta remembered all the individuals who provided services to her: the refuse collectors, lawn service, snow removal, mailperson, and many, many more; she would leave a cold beverage every week and on holidays she wrapped the soda can with a monetary gift for a lunch on her. Assunta was a mother to three children, yet she was a mother to countless more. She received many notes of love and thanks over the years at holidays, birthdays and ‘just because’. She loved children and prayed and gave to the poor; she would share her love and caring with so many. Assunta is survived by her children Mario (Kristie Murphy), Margherita (Dan Clark), and Vince (Jill Moran); grandchildren Evan and Angelo Procaccini; nieces Valerie Procaccini and Marina Weber, sister-in-law Noemi Procaccini and dear friend and neighbor Violet Nycum. In Italy, cousin Assunta Paolucci, nieces and nephews Luciana (Bruno) and Simonetta Frattesi, Mario (Antonella) Rogheto, Margherita (Marco) Rogheto, Elena (Paolo) Luzi, and the late Emma (Paolo) Rotatori. Assunta was preceded in death by her husband, Nello; parents, Mariano and Margherita Rogheto; identical twin sister, Emma Rogheto; and, brother, Aldo Rogheto (Anna Maria Pupita). A special recognition of hospice registered nurse, Wanda Jameson, that provided exceptional care and service to all of us; Julie Johnson who provided kind, compassionate daily care; and, to Violet Nycum, her dear friend and neighbor, who was part of our extended family and she cared for all of us. Family and friends are invited to Hoeflinger-Shank Funeral Home (419-691-6768), 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, February 16, 2019 with visitation at 9 a.m. at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 300 Warner St., Walbridge, OH followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School Endowment Fund 3225 Pickle R. Oregon, OH 43616. Online condolences may be left at hoeflingerfuneralhome.com
