Arthur G. Strachn died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 27, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born to his parents, Charles and Verda (Porter) Strachn on July 9, 1934, in Morenci, MI and was raised in Adrian, MI. He married Betty Brandt in 1965 and they had three boys, Doug, Mike and Greg.
He worked for 25 years as a carpenter building cabinets for Merillat Cabinets in Adrian, and eventually left carpentry to open a bakery. Together he and Betty worked for over 50 years, side by side, making donuts and every sweet treat you can imagine.
Art was a simple man who worked hard his whole life. He was an avid softball player and volunteered his time at Raisin Center Friends. Later in life, he moved his family and bakery to the Toledo area. There he served his local church, fed the hungry by making lunches for those in need and became a Mud Hens fan. He is resting now in his savior’s arms, bringing much comfort to those he left behind.
Left to carry on his legacy are his wife, Betty; sons Michael and Doug; 13 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters Helen Hunt and Velma Dejonghe; nieces, nephews, friends, and faithful employees and customers at the bakery. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Gregory.
Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home (5155 W. Sylvania Ave.) on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 11 am – 12 pm with a funeral service beginning at noon. Interment will be at Springfield Township Cemetery immediately following. Refreshments will be served at Boulevard Christian Church at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation made in Art’s honor to Jews for Jesus.
