Arlen Vincent “Vince” Crawford, Jr. went to be with the Lord on February 15, 2023. He was 98 years old at his death. Vince was born March 13, 1924, in Skelton, West Virginia. Vince was part of the Civilian Conservation Corps in southern West Virginia from September 25, 1941, through March 24, 1942, and received an Honorable Discharge before enlisting in the Army. He was a part of the 41st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron and was honorably discharged January 10, 1946. He received a Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star, American Theatre Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, and World War II Victory Ribbon and other field citations.
He retired in 1986 after over 30 years with C.J. Rogers Transportation and was a member of the Teamsters Retirees. Vince was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church in Toledo for over 50 years. He spent his last days at the Lakes of Sylvania. The family wishes to thank the facility for the dedicated care and compassion shown to dad during his time with them.
Vince was married to the love of his life, Dorothy Mae (Blevins) for 64 years and that union brought them six children; Daniel, Tom (Ann), Gary, Deborah (Bob) Wischer, Judy (Robert) Smith and Tracy (Greg) Meyer; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and a great-great grandson. He is also survived by his sister, Betty (Don) Davis of McDonough, Georgia, as well as many nieces and nephews. Vince was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, on October 9, 2009; son, Daniel; his parents, Arlen Sr. and Garnet Crawford; as well as two brothers, Edward and Richard.
Visitation will be in Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, on Friday, February 24, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The funeral will begin at Noon in the funeral home. Interment and military honors will follow at Whiteford Union Cemetery on Sterns Road in Lambertville, Michigan. The Rev. John Patchen of Aldersgate United Methodist Church will be the officiant. John spent many hours with dad over the past few years faithfully supporting his needs through prayer and Bible Study, and the family is grateful for his compassion and the care he has shown dad over the past few years.
