Ardis E. Schwind, 92, of Millbury, Ohio died May 19, 2018. Ardis was born on October 2nd, 1925. She married Paul J. Schwind, the love of her life, on October 12th, 1946. He once fought the mighty Maumee to write her name on one of the bridges over the river. Ardis and her husband travelled to 49 states and at least seven different countries together, including Ireland, France and Switzlerland. They visited Pope John Paul in 1980 in Canada and also went to Pearl Harbor. They were some of the founding members of St. Jerome’s Parish in Walbridge, Ohio and were even recognized as extraordinary ministers for their service. They earned the Centurion Award for 50 exceptional years of service to the church. Together, they were Eucharistic Ministers for St. Jerome, St. Charles Hospital, Rosary Cathedral and Orchard Villa. Ardis volunteered at church festivals, crocheted lap blankets and shawls for veterans and shut-ins, worked at the church flea markets, was on the Rosary Altar Sodality, worked Bingo at church every Monday for 40 years, and volunteered for 20 years on the elections voting board. She crafted all her life and attended many shows and made many things at home. Ardis was a gracious woman who gave from her heart in all that she did. Ardis and Paul had many adventures together, including, Pre Cana, and the Goer’s Camping Club. They were speakers at “Life in the Spirit”, “Marriage in the Spirit” and “Marriage Encounter” retreats and campouts. They attended weekly prayer groups at Port Clinton and St. Charles for over 20 years. They earned the Spirit of Wood County Award, which Ardis was very proud of. Ardis was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Schwind, who died in November of 2016; grandson, Matthew Paul Sheehy; and brother, Eugene Gilsdorf; and sister, Delores Culpepper. Surviving Ardis are her children, Gene (Diane) Schwind, Denise Smolenski, Marcia (Mike) Rellinger, Melinda (Jim) Sheehy, and Karen (Randy) Barner. She is also survived by her twelve grandchildren, twenty nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren, all who loved her very much. Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 701 N. Main St, Walbridge, Ohio with a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 300 Warner St. Walbridge, Ohio with Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, Perrysburg. Memorial Contributions may be directed to St. Jerome Catholic Church. The entire Schwind family would like to thank Promedica Hospice of Clyde and Genoa Care Center for the exceptional love and care they have shown to Ardis.
