Apolonio Cantu 87, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center, Port Clinton, OH, surrounded by his loving family. Apolonio was born on October 28, 1927 in Mercedes, Texas, the son of Alfredo and Antonia (Arrizola) Cantu. On September 10, 1951 in Alamo, TX he married Maria Villarreal and she survives. He worked hard as a laborer for U.S. Gypsum for 43 years, retiring in 1991, he never missed a day of work. Apolonio was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Apolonio loved watching the Price is Right show, comedy and western movies and baseball. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include: Loving Wife of 63 years: Maria Cantu; Sons: Apolonio (Barbara) Cantu Jr. and Alfredo Cantu; Daughters: Guadalupe (Thurman) Mitchell, Martha (Gary) Wilkins, Teresa (David) Ashton and Rosario (Steve) Nagy; 11 Grandchildren; 14 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren; Brother: Daniel (Mary Lou) Cantu and Sister: Alicia Trimble. Apolonio was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Paulita Cortez, brothers: Rodolfo Cantu and Oscar Cantu, grandson: Charlie Finn and brother-in-law: John Trimble. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8PM, Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, OH, with a rosary service at 7:30PM. A Funeral Mass will be conducted by Father John Missler at 10:00AM, Thursday, March 19, 2015 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Apolonio may be given to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Stein Hospice or Edgewood Activity Fund. The family would like to thank the staff at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center and Stein Hospice for all the loving care and kindness given to their father during his stay with them.
