Anthony Thomas Guzzo

Anthony Thomas Guzzo, age 89, of Maumee, Ohio passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018. He was born in Canonsburg, PA to Joseph and Rose (Consolmagno) Guzzo on January 7, 1929. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Tony graduated from Canonsburg H.S; he did his undergraduate studies at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, and went on to earn his Masters Degree in Business Education at Bowling Green State University. He taught at Springfield H.S. for many years. After retiring from teaching, he owned and operated his own Accounting and Tax Preparation Business. His memberships included Maumee Kiwanis, American Legion; was an advisor for Junior Achievement; was a long time member of St. Joseph Church where he served as an usher, and most recently, a member of St. Patricks of Heatherdowns Church. Anthony supported many groups including Ohio Historical Society, Toledo Zoo, Toledo Museum of Art, WGTE, The Metroparks and the Maumee Valley Historical Society. He loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed gardening, painting, traveling, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Anthony is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters, Cathy (Gary) Bartel, Margaret Guzzo; grandchildren, Tyler, Madeline, Olivia Bartel, Julia and Anthony Martoncik; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Martoncik; sister, Rose Thomas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Katherine Betsill, Carmeline Claysmith and brothers, Ralph, Joseph, and Angelo Guzzo. Friends and Family will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 4-8 P.M. Prayers will begin at the funeral home on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 9:30 A.M. followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. at St. Patricks of Heatherdowns Catholic Church, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo. Interment will follow in Springfield Township Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association or St. Patricks of Heatherdowns Catholic Church.
