Anthony Joseph Ettorre

Anthony Joseph Ettorre (95) of Mentor, Ohio passed away on January 13, 2023.


Anthony, fondly known as Tony, was born in central Italy, in an Adriatic coastal town called Giulianova, Italy (near Pescara) and was the only child to Amilcare Giovanni Loreto Ettorre and his mother Giovanna Fardelli-Corropolesi.


Left Italy at age 21, immigrated to Canada where he met and later married Pauline Delmar in 1956. Shortly thereafter they immigrated to Ohio. They had four children while he worked his way up from Surveyor, Draftsman, Registered Architect and finally earned an Engineering degree while working in downtown Cleveland. Many of his buildings and homes are throughout Ohio including Cleveland, Sandusky and Mentor. They even include aiding in the design and building of the 19th century historical frontier town, “Ohio Village”. He started his own successful architectural engineering company at the age of 58.


He is survived by his children; Joanna Ettorre, Cleveland, John (Julie) Ettorre, Cleveland, Ernie (Cathy) Ettorre, Sandusky and Paul Ettorre, Cleveland. His grandchildren Michael (Kyle) Cleveland, OH, Patrick (Ashley) St. Louis, MO. Roman (Angelica) Lorain, OH, Alex Nathans (Molly) Columbus, OH, Sophie and Finn Ettorre, Cleveland, OH. and his beloved companion Freda Farone, Mentor, OH


He was an architectural engineer, former president of the Cleveland Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, former President of Avanti Amerita, local chapter of Italian Sons and Daughters of America, founding member of the Italian American Cultural Foundation in Cleveland, OH. member of Toastmasters International, watercolor artist, writer, avid multi-instrument musician who enjoyed over 30 years with Italian Folk music bands including the Primavera Band that played for many decades at the infamous “Feast of the Assumption” in Little Italy. He also lectured at local schools regarding Italian and European cultural issues.


He loved Italy, Italian culture, cooking traditional Italian dishes and traveled throughout over 20 countries in Europe, Asia, South America and Oceania.


His love of learning was widely known and was accurately nicknamed “Renaissance Man” by his best friend Peter Apicella.


Arrangements were entrusted to the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home and Crematory, Port Clinton, Ohio.
