Anne (McCarthy) Barshel, age 90, of Sylvania, died Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at St. Anne’s Hospital.
Anne was born October 23, 1932, in Utica, New York. She graduated from St. Ursula High School and, later in her life, attended Katherine Gibbs in Boston, Mass., where she studied secretarial.
Anne was best known for her Catholic Faith and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her faith blossomed when she was 7 years old and attended St. Mary's grade school in Defiance. All throughout her life, she regularly prayed the Rosary. Anne was a very active member of Christ the King Church in Toledo, serving as a Eucharistic minister, lector, and a member of the choir.
Anne was a member of the Lake Somerset community in Michigan and loved boat rides and snowmobiling on the lake. Another of Anne's interests was real estate. She built three homes and was the owner and operator of Douglas West Apartments in Toledo for 35 years. She also enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flowers.
Anne is survived by her children, Brenda Barshel, Bradley Barshel, and Bryan (Kimberly) Barshel; and grandchildren, Kara Coontz, Kyle Barshel, Logan Barshel, and Kelsey Barshel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle and Joseph McCarthy; and sisters, Jane “Gigi” and Ellen McCarthy.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 5-7 p.m., Friday, February 10, 2023, in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.), Toledo, where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, followed by funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
