Anne Marie Ballmer

Anne Marie Ballmer, 85, of Maumee passed away on Monday August 6, 2012 at St. Lukes Hospital. She was born on January 20, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio to George and Marie Ilg Smith. Anne was a life long member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Maumee. She loved to sing and play the piano as well as the organ. While raising her children, Annes love of history led her to volunteer as a hostess and tour guide at the Wolcott House Museum where she eventually took on a role as a board member of the Maumee Valley Historical Society. She was a talented seamstress and made all her costumes as well as clothing for her children. Anne was also very active at St. Josephs Church and the Maumee Senior Center. Anne graduated from Maumee High School and continued her schooling at Mary Manse College on Collingwood Avenue, where she was a member of Kappa Gamma Pi. After graduation she was offered an opportunity to teach in McClure, Ohio. She was a substitute teacher at St. Josephs Elementary School in Maumee. After her children were all in school, she was hired by the Diocese of Toledo to play the church organ and direct the choir at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Toledo. Anne is survived by her children, Kathryn Ballmer, Robert Jean Pennell Ballmer, Elizabeth Charles Maps, William Terri Ballmer, Joseph Diane Ballmer, Michael Lisa Ballmer, and Mary Jim Matuszak, grandchildren, Lindsey Mike Harrison, Bailey Ballmer, Kelsey Ballmer, Erin Keenan Laws, Hope Pennell, Lisa Pennell, Sam Maps, Debbie Craig Mader, Steven Meghan Ballmer, Joshua Ballmer, Sarah Chambers, Kayla Ballmer, Brighton Ballmer, Christopher Alix Matuszak, Jimmy Matuszak, Kimberly Matuszak, and Katie Matuszak, great grandchildren, Elijah, Ethan, Owen, Madelyn, Kayden, and Claire, brothers, Robert and George Jan Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E., infant brother, John, and sister, Margaret Filiere. The family would like to extend a Thank You to the Elizabeth Scott Community and the staff on 2 East at St. Lukes Hospital for all their care. Visitation will be on Friday August 10, 2012 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be on Saturday August 11, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maumee, Ohio with prayers beginning at the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
