Anna C. McDede, 97, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Kingston Care Center in
Sylvania on Monday, January 15, 2024. Anna was born on September 11, 1926, in Pennsylvania, to her late
parents, Adam and Elizabeth Simon, and her family moved shortly after to New Brunswick, New Jersey,
where she was raised. She attended New Brunswick High School before leaving to aid the war effort during
WWII. As such a young woman, she felt the conviction to serve along with so many others in that great
generation. Afterwards, Anna worked in the lab for the Squibb Drug Company before marrying her dear
husband, Joseph McDede, on November 6, 1948, beginning their life together on Duley Avenue in Edison, NJ.
She soon after became a homemaker and was a wonderful mother to their three children. Once they were of
age, Anna returned to the workforce where she was the bookkeeper for the New Brunswick School System
Food Services for over 20 years. While she was incredibly proud of her kids, her absolute greatest joy of all
was her 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She completely admired them and everything about
their lives. Joe and Anna were incredibly devoted to each other until his passing in 1990. She missed him
greatly but soon embraced her new home in Toledo in 1999, when she decided to move to be closer to her
daughter.
Anna loved her Catholic Faith and was a parishioner of St. Joseph Parish in Sylvania. She prayed her Rosary
daily and found great peace in her beloved faith. She had great pride in her Hungarian roots, how she
prepared traditional Hungarian dishes, and how she spoke the language. She loved animals, especially cats,
particularly her beloved Honey. Before her eyesight failed, she was an avid crossword puzzler, scrabble
player, loved to read her Harlequin romance books, and watch the Wheel of Fortune. She was very skilled at
knitting and crocheting, gifting many Afghans to her grandchildren and even created a few Christening
dresses for her great-grands. She was an avid casino attendee, was loyal to the slot machines, and simply
loved it every time she went. She didn’t win often but always had a fun time!
Anna was a very special lady who touched many people's hearts. She was loyal, determined, and dedicated to
her family. She had a uniquely strong will which gave her the ability to push forward no matter the
circumstance, which developed into a strength that was inspiring to many. Her daughter will miss their daily
coffee dates, and family and friends will miss her delicious zucchini bread and her wise words of advice. She
was such a selfless, humble, and loving woman who will be incredibly missed by all of her family, friends, and
loved ones.
Anna is survived by her children, Patricia (Leonard) Bullard, Michael (Donna) McDede, Timothy McDede;
grandchildren, Joanne (Rick) Waldman, Leonard C., III. (Valerie) Bullard, Jillian (Michael) Hare, Christopher
(Ashleigh) Bullard, Casey (Ryan) Burd, Michael McDede (Carly), Meaghan (Deepan) Rajah, Breann McDede
(Marc); great-grandchildren, Logan, Sydney, Sawyer, and Caitlin Waldman, Isabel, Leonard IV, and Everett
Bullard, Sloane, Sullivan, Asa, and Marshall Hare, Savannah and Scarlett Bullard, Josie, Sebastien, and Nash
Burd, Oliver and Sylvia Rajah; special friends, Pam, Jen, Libby, Bernice; and many nieces, nephews, and dear
friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph McDede; siblings, William, Adam,
Elizabeth, Zolton, Ted, Stephen, and two infant brothers.
