Anna H. James, age 79, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at her residence. The daughter of Arthur and Natalie Hewlett, she was born April 10, 1937 in Lawrence, NY. As a young girl her parents moved to Alaska. Because Alaska was not a state at the time Anna went to school in Massachusetts where she had relatives living. Following graduation, she attended Barnard College and received her Bachelors degree. Anna move to California after marriage and gave birth to 2 daughters. Eventually moving to Toledo, she dedicated herself to raising her daughters as well as receiving her Masters Degree in Economics from University of Michigan. She worked for National Family Opinion, a marketing research firm and Central Travel before beginning a successful career at the University of Toledo as an Academic Advisor retiring in 2002. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved to cook. In fact, there was not a cook book that she could walk past. She was a highly intelligent person who desired to expand her knowledge. She studied different cultures and learned their language. She would take art classes and experiment with painting and photography. The quest for knowledge lead her to travel extensively as well. She is survived by her daughters, Ceri (Jeffrey) Paul and Mimi (Mark) Ehlen; grandchildren, Arthur (Dana MacEachern) Paul, Harry Hewlett (Emily) Paul, Eliza Ehlen; and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
