Ann Tschappat

December 2, 1939 — December 6, 2023

Ann Marie (Rook) Tschappat, 84, of Genoa, OH, passed away on December 06, 2023 surrounded by loving family and friends. She was born December 02, 1939.

Ann grew up in La Salle, Michigan on a farm with her parents and grandmother Mimi. She was the daughter of late Raymond and Marie Rook.

Life on the farm in 1940 was a simple time and she loved sharing her memories of growing up. The flower garden on the side of the house was her pride and joy. A fresh bouquet of flowers would always sit on the kitchen table, picked by her. She was allergic to flowers but still enjoyed them because she would often say “In nature, nothing is perfect but everything is perfect.” Ann loved nature and the outdoors; she would climb the cherry trees on the property when the bull would get loose. The fresh air, green grass and open fields were here home even though in her adult life she grew up in the city. She preferred the country atmosphere.

She attended a one room school house and went to High School at St. Mary’s Academy. Ann obtained a degree in accounting from Stautzenberger College. She was an account at Teamster Local 20 in Toledo OH after graduating. She was very intelligent, sassy, honest, Ann showed a love for knowledge and numbers.

She held a strong faith in God and often spoke about her belief in God to family and friends.

For the better part of her life, she was married to Edward Victor Tschappat, her husband. She was an avid reader, from books to newspapers. Together, they traveled to numerous National Parks, Mexico, and Canada through his work as a Ford engineer. They built a loving and beautiful life together married raising 3 children together after being married in 1962.

After Edward passed away, Ann left Toledo, OH and moved to Genoa, OH, moving in with her daughter Lucy and Lucy’s late husband, Mark. Ann enjoyed almost 5 years of love, laughter, and spending time with her daughter while Ann battled stage four cancer. From doctor appointments to chemo Ann was cared for in a loving home and fought hard.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Edward; her sister, Teresa; brother, Tom; and her loving granddaughter, Kaila.

Ann is survived by her siblings Rita and Douglas. Her children, Lucy, Robert, and Jennifer. She loved her grandchildren with all of her heart, Katarina, Natasha, Nathan, KaeLeigh. Her legacy of great grandchildren includes Sophia, Maxwell, Alexander, Charlotte, Jonah, John Parker and Jaclyn with hopefully more to come.
