Ann Elizabeth Nelson, a lifelong resident and former Clerk of Courts of Ottawa County, OH, died on Tuesday, April 30th, after a short illness. Ann died peacefully at the Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, OH, three days before her 93rd birthday. In 1972, Ann was elected Clerk of Courts of the Common Pleas Court of Ottawa County, and she held that office for three 4-year terms until 1984. Before that, she served as Deputy Clerk of the Court for over 15 years. Ann was born on May 2, 1920 to Christ and Mary Imes Nelson. She was an honors graduate of Port Clinton High Schools Class of 1938. She then graduated from Davis College in Toledo. Before her employment with the Ottawa County Common Pleas Court, Ann was employed by Herbrand Corporation in Fremont, and later worked at the Erie Ordinance Depot. Ann was an active member of the Port Clinton and Ottawa County communities and was involved in many organizations. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Magruder Hospital Auxiliary, and the Riverview Nursing Home Auxiliary. Ann was a 16-year volunteer with the Red Cross at Magruder Hospital. Ann was a member of the Port Clinton Yacht Club where she enjoyed attending weekend social events and spending time with her friends. Active in local politics, Ann was a member of the Ottawa County Democratic Club. She was also a member of the Port Clinton Business and Professional Womens Club and the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Ann enjoyed art and painting and was a member of the Port Clinton Artists Club. She also enjoyed traveling. She traveled to all but six of the United States, and visited most of northeastern Canada. She took a European tour of 15 countries, and later traveled to the British Isles, Australia, Tahiti, New Zealand and Fiji. Ann was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton. There, she was a member of the Adult Choir, the Memorial Choir and the Altar and Rosary Society. Ann is survived by her brother, Curtis Arline Nelson; her niece, Nancy Nelson; and her nephews, John Cathy Nelson and David Susan Nelson. She is also survived by her grand-nephew, Kyle Nelson; and her grand-nieces, Lindsay and Claire Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Christ and Mary Nelson; her brother, Marvin; and her sister, Lois. Friends may visit the family on Friday, May 3, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St, Port Clinton. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Saturday, May 4, at 10:00 a.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to the Immaculate Conception Church.
