Anita L. Manzeck of Elmore, Ohio died Saturday April 11, 2026, just 2 weeks shy of her 90th birthday, at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo. Anita was born in Genoa, Ohio, April 27, 1936, to Ralph and Bessie Strohscher, and married Richard "Dick" Manzeck at St. John's UCC, Genoa, April 29, 1961. Many years after Richard's passing in 2014, Anita met and married Gerald Goldsby and was fortunate to have 7 wonderful years with Jerry and his family.
Anita graduated from Genoa High School and Bowling Green State University. She worked as a teacher at Genoa Local Schools for over 30 years, where she was a beloved 5th grade teacher at Allen Elementary. After retiring as a teacher, she became a long-time volunteer at the Toledo Zoo where she was able to share her love of both animals and children. Anita was also an active member of the Auxiliary at Riverview Healthcare campus and the Black Swamp Bird Observatory. Most importantly, she was a lifetime member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Genoa and was involved as an officer of the church, while also serving on many committees. Anita shared her time, kindness, energy, and love of learning with everyone she met.
Anita had a zest for life unmatched by many. From her adventures in California right after college, her involvement with just about any organization she encountered, her traveling all over to spend time with her grandchildren, she was the most fun and active mom and grandma any child or grandchild could ask for. She had an innate curiosity about the world and people in it, which delighted many who crossed her path. She will be greatly missed but has left the world a better place.
Anita is survived by Jerry; her daughters Linda (Don) Woodmansee of Lakeview, OH and Kathy (Kent) Anderson of Westborough, MA; grandchildren Jeremiah, Emily, Josh, and Suzanne Woodmansee, and Sarah and Eric Anderson; great grandchildren Allyssa and Raegen Woodmansee; siblings, Ruth (Merle) Haar, Alvin Strohscher, and Nancy Gamble; along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband Richard.
Anita's family will receive family and friends at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington Street, Genoa, Friday, May 8, 2026, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A memorial service celebrating Anita's life will be held at church Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11:30 am where family will receive friends at 10:30. Private interment: Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John's UCC, Cherry Street Mission Ministries, or a charity of your choice. Robinson Walker Funeral Home, Genoa.
