Andrew Anthony Veres, beloved husband, dad, and grandpa, from Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away at the age of 81 on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Although suffering from and fighting valiantly against many injuries and underlying health conditions for the past several years, death was unexpected after a serious fall the week before.
Andrew was born on January 9, 1941, in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania to Denes and Margaret (Falscik) Veres. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1959. Proudly serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg, NC in the 82 nd Airborne as a paratrooper from January 1961 to January 1964, he made 32 successful jumps and carried his company colors in parades. He married the love of his life, Gayle L. (Schantz) Veres, on June 11, 1966, recently celebrating 56 years together with her. He retired after 32 years from his career as a truck driver, which began with McLean Trucking and ended with Bulkmatic Transport. Andrew was a staunch patriot who loved his country and had the utmost respect for her flag and the ideals and freedoms for which she stands. A devout Roman Catholic who attended Sunday mass every week until health reasons kept him homebound, he continued to watch televised mass on Sunday mornings. He had a variety of collections from antique model cars to penknives. He most enjoyed listening to bluegrass and gospel music on his tablet and being with his family, especially his grandchildren, of whom he was immensely proud.
Andrew is survived by his wife Gayle of Perrysburg, OH; his daughter Andrea (Veres) Pfaff and her husband Frank of Comstock Park, MI; his sons Robert (Bob) Veres and Cheryl Young of Perrysburg, OH, and Richard (Rich) Veres and Annie Bowser of Toledo, OH; eight grandchildren Nicholas (Nick) Robinson and his wife Sarah, Joshua (Josh) Veres, Andrew (AJ) Veres, Savanah (Pfaff) Cornell and her husband Curtis, Payton Veres, Alexandria (Lily) Pfaff, Dominic Veres, and Anabella (Bella) Pfaff; and sister-in-law Coral (Schantz) Bollinger.
