Andrew D. Hirt, 21, of Genoa, died unexpectedly in Cheboygan Memorial Hospital, Cheboygan, Michigan, Saturday, February 12, 2011. Andrew was born February 14, 1989, to Joel D. and Kimberly A. Henning Hirt. Andrew attended schools in Moncks Corner, SC, Williamsburg, VA, Wahiawa, HI, St. Marys, OH, Wellsville, OH, and Genoa. He had also attended the University of Toledo, Owens Community College and Terra Community College. He loved drafting and construction and was working towards a degree in construction management and construction engineering. Andrew was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Genoa. He was a member of the American Legion Post #324 in Genoa and the VFW Post 7510. He served in the U.S. Navy and the Reserves and had been stationed at Great Lakes, IL, Fort Leonard, Wood, MD, and Port Hueneme, CA. Andrew served a six-month tour in Iraq and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Medal. Andrews hobbies included skateboarding, video and computer games and surfing. He loved riding his Harley, taking road trips and spending time at the beach; but best of all, Andrew loved spending time with his many, many friends. He is survived by his parents, Joel and Kimberly of Genoa, brothers, Christopher Lauren Stienecker and Kyle Lauren Hirt, sister and part-time mom, Jamie Stienecker, niece, Abby Stienecker, grandmother, Marilyn Henning, grandparents, Lyle and Marian Hirt, and his dog, Dixie. Andrew is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Henning and grandmother, Gladine Hirt. Visitation for Andrew will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2011, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, Ohio. A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 303 Main St., Genoa, with an hour of visitation prior to the service; 3-4 p.m. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorials for Andrew be given to the scholarship fund at Trinity United Methodist Church in Genoa. The world would be a better place if instead of fighting, we all just danced.
