Andrew Norman Benson, Jr.

Andrew N. Benson, Jr., age 75, of Maumee, Ohio died suddenly Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Toledo Hospital. He was born in Toledo on February 26, 1940 to Andrew and Esther (Carlson) Benson, Sr. Andrew graduated in 1958 from Libby High School and he proudly served in the United States Marines. Andrew worked as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office for 40 years, where he met and married the love of his life on August 1, 1975, Dorothy Polk. Together they spent 39 years together until her passing in 2014. Andrew and Dorothy did everything together and had side by side routes. They even retired the same year in 2001. Andrew’s route was the same route that his father had when he worked for the Post Office Station E. Andrew was a generous man who loved reading, eating out, watching t.v. and voting Republican. He was very kind to all and will be greatly missed. Andrew is survived by his numerous nieces and nephews, Kathryn Benson, Robert Benson, John (Jenny) Benson, Bradley Benson, Fred LaPlante and Frank (Barbara) LaPlante; sisters-in-law, Carlaann Stiles, Paula F. Howe, Sheree L. Hope and Anna M. Golden; Uncle of Allan (Karen) Stiles, Chad Howe, John Hope II, Tara Bowman, Melissa Bowman and Katy Golden and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; sister, Helen LaPlante; brother, Robert Benson; loving niece, Andrea Hope. Friends will be received at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St. (419-874-3133) on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 2:00 PM-8:00 PM. Funeral service will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 17 at 10:00 AM.
