Andrea Marquardt (also known as “Penny”) of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 8th in the loving arms of her family. She is survived by her husband Jon Marquardt, three daughters Kari Downey (Tiger), Kirsten Timmins, and Kimberly Scholl (Adam), stepchildren Karen Marquardt (Sierra) and Eric Marquardt (Caitin), four grandchildren Grace Downey, Sam Downey, Jackson Scholl and Wyatt Scholl, three step-grandchildren Dash Marquardt, Sage Irvine and Zoey Nash, and her sister Carol Jenkins. Andrea was born on 11/1/41 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Henry and Margaret Sutcliffe. She was a loving wife of Jon Marquardt for 33 years.
Visitation hours will be from 5:00-8:00 on Friday, March 15, at Walker Funeral Home at 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. in Toledo, OH. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Saturday, March 16 at 10 am at 5373 Main St. in Sylvania, OH.
Andrea was a 1959 graduate of the Academy of Notre Dame in Villanova, PA and a 1963 graduate of Rosemont College; she also received a master’s degree at Villanova University. She was a dedicated teacher and administrator in Sylvania Schools for 30 years up until her retirement in 2001. Jon loves to tell the story of how he first hired her, then he married her.
Andrea loved nothing more than spending time with her children and grandchildren (and dogs). She also loved quilting, sewing, gardening, researching her ancestry, and was an avid reader and member of a book club for many years. She loved her happy hour margaritas and her many years at the Jersey shore and on the beach at their special place in Englewood, Florida. She loved to travel with her husband and her sister and took many trips to places like Mexico, Hawaii, Italy, Ireland, Jamaica, Holland, and camping in the US national parks. She especially loved reminiscing about her trip to Europe on the Queen Mary in 1963. She was a woman of strong faith which she nourished at St. Joe’s, especially in recent years.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation made in Andrea's honor to the American Diabetes Association or St. Joseph Catholic Church of Sylvania.
