Update: Visitation and services have been relocated to the Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home located at 222 E. South Boundary in Perrysburg, Ohio.
Amy Beth Kowalinski, 61, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 23, after a courageous fight with Glioblastoma. She was born on December 2, 1961, in Monroe, Michigan, to her late parents, Robert and Germaine (Gaynier/Jondro) Reed. Growing up, she made many great memories while camping with family, frequently traveling out West and up North into Michigan. She attended Jefferson High School, in Monroe, and continued her education at Toledo Hospital School of Nursing, where she became a registered nurse.
Being a nurse was Amy’s proudest professional accomplishment. Her career blossomed at Toledo Hospital for twenty years and then continued as a nurse and clinic manager at Fresenius for eighteen years. She dedicated her life to her work, positively impacting her patients, coworkers, and countless others whom she encountered. Being a nurse was her calling, demonstrated in her unique resolve to treat everyone with the compassion, respect and dignity they deserved. Her gravitation towards service reflected her character, faith, and the values and love she cherished with her family and friends.
Amy was a caring and welcoming mother, sister, and daughter, and had the special ability to make her children’s friends feel at home. She was a second and even first mother to many. She gave the best hugs, loved to laugh, was very supportive, and had a general compassion for everyone. She always showed up and was willing to help her kids, family and friends no matter what. She taught them by example how to persevere and how to bring happiness to others. Her smile and laugh were contagious. She was truly one of a kind and her loving presence will be missed by everyone who knew her.
For leisure, Amy was an avid reader, favoring fiction novels, and she also enjoyed watching various television shows and listening to music. Amy loved to go on walks and would often take her children including dogs, Bear, Murphy, Mylie, and Tucker along with her. For those who knew Amy, you know that chocolate (without nuts), Gino’s pizza, anise cookies, and Baskin Robbins Daiquiri Ice ice cream were among her favorite treats. She was a joy to be around and radiated love into everyone.
Amy is survived by her two children, Stanton Kowalinski and Abigail (Aaron) Cox; grandchildren, Bodhi, Eloise, and McKenzie Cox; siblings, Tim (Deb) Reed, Eric (Dawn) Reed, and Jody (Paul) Fritz; ex-husband, Mark Kowalinski; and many beloved second children, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Bob and Germaine; father-in-law, Florian Kowalinski; and sister, Lori Deuby.
Friends are invited to gather at the Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 East South Boundary Street in Perrysburg, on Sunday July 30, 2023 from 11-4 p.m. Amy’s funeral service will immediately follow that evening at 4 p.m.
