Alyssa Marie Pinkerton Gottschalk passed away March 23, 2016 at the Toledo Hospital in the presence of her family after her courageous fight with cancer. Alyssa was born February 3, 1981 in Cleveland, Ohio to John V. Pinkerton and Barbara A. Kirchner. Alyssa married her devoted husband, John Gottschalk, on December 31, 2013 in Maumee, Ohio. A 1999 graduate of Brush High School, Alyssa was active in choir where she developed her love of music and the theater. She then went on to the University of Toledo where she received her degree in education. She influenced the lives of many students in several districts, but was most recently a teacher at Arbor Hills Junior High in Sylvania. She loved running and completed numerous full and half marathons. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and faithful canine companion, Colby. She also had a special love for travel and outdoor activities, especially fishing with her husband. Alyssa is survived by her loving husband, John Gottschalk; mother, Barbara Kirchner; sister Heather (Bob) Baldwin; niece Mia Baldwin; uncles Jim Kirchner and Van Niforos; father and mother-in-law Charles and Susan Gottschalk; brothers-in-law Chuck (Melissa) Gottschalk, Jeff Gottschalk, and Jamie Gottschalk; nieces and nephews Chase, Molly, Chip, Ein, and Hayden; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and the hundreds of students she so positively influenced. Alyssa was preceded in death by her father, John Pinkerton and her grandparents. Family and friends will be received Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 10 am to 1 pm at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. S. Boundary St. Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133) with a memorial service to begin at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to The Foundation for Women’s Cancer.
