Alvin Buck Stiffler

Alvin Buck I. Stiffler, 90, of Oak Harbor, died Saturday morning, December 1, 2012, in Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor after a short stay. Alvin was born February 20, 1922, at his homestead on Lickert Harder Road in Oak Harbor, Ohio, to Ira and Alma A. Caris Stiffler. On August 29, 1945, at St. John Lutheran Church in Rocky Ridge, Ohio, he married Dorothy S. Harder, whom he met when he was 15 and she was 14. She preceded him in death January 10, 1999. Alvin farmed all his life, which he truly loved and for 32 years worked at Standard Oil now BP in Oregon retiring in 1983. He served in the U.S. Army 338th Infantry, Co. B during WWII and received the Bronze Star Medal. He was a past member of the American Legion Post #114 in Oak Harbor and a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Rocky Ridge, where he served on Church Council. Alvin enjoyed the outdoors and camping. He and Dorothy had purchased a camper on a permanent site at Clinton Lake in Republic, Ohio, where he happily spent his last days there raking nuts and leaves and picking up sticks. He also enjoyed listening to Polka music. Buck is survived by his son, Wayne Jan Stiffler of Clyde, daughters, Suzanne Susie Raymond Phillips and Sharon Stiffler Richard Floro both of Oak Harbor, six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy, granddaughter, Sheri Stiffler, son-in-law, Glenn Schultz, and daughter-in-law, Linda Sue Stiffler. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor. The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. with interment to follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor with military graveside services conducted by the Oak Harbor American Legion Post #114 and the Oak Harbor V.F.W. Post #8732. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Buck may be given to St. John Lutheran Church, 450 N. Rocky Ridge Rd., Rocky Ridge, OH 43458; or Hospice of Memorial Hospital, 430 S.
