Alvin W. Newland, 84, of Curtice, OH passed away on May 30, 2015. He was born April 12, 1931 to Arthur and Myrtle (Hunter) Newland in Effingham, Illinois. Alvin proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a basic Airman for 6 years and received his National Defense Service medal. He worked at M & M Restaurant Supply for 21 years as their Maintenance Manager. Alvin was a “Jack of all trades” and loved to work in his garage. He was a huge Jeff Gordon fan and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 45 years, Sharon K. (Bischof) Newland; children, Denise (David) Malkemus, Mark Newland, Roger (Dawn) Newland; 9 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 2 - 4:00 pm at the Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, OH 43616. The Newland Family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Northwest Ohio Hospice, Passport, and the Jerusalem Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Alvin’s family would be greatly appreciated.
