Alverta Rugg Ruth Holland

Alverta Ruth Holland, age 65, of Toledo died Friday, January 5, 2018 at Ebeid Hospice surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Mill Run, Pennsylvania on March 16, 1952 to Glenn R. and Daisy M. (Shroyer) Rugg. On October 9, 1976 she married Douglas K. Holland who preceded her in death on February 25, 2004. Ruth worked as a Caterer for Kroger’s for many years and most recently at Rosie’s Italian Grill as a Hostess. Ruth was definitely a “people” person. She loved making people smile and listening to their stories. She had a radiant smile that would light up a room. She attended Cedar Creek Church, loved cooking, board games but most importantly, she was a devoted grammy who loved to spend and share time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Jennifer (John) Cox and Douglas (Melissa) Holland II; grandchildren, Zachary, Grayson and Avery Cox, Payton and Ryder Holland; sister, Freda (Terry) Davis; nieces and nephews; special family and friends as well as her canine companion, Murphy. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Daisy; husband, Douglas Holland; brothers, Russell, Melvin, William and Joseph Rugg. Friends will be received on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 4-7 PM at Neville Shank Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway in Holland (419-865-8879) and on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Springfield Township Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to do so to the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure. Ruth’s family would like to thank the nurses from the 8th floor of Toledo Hospital and Ebeid Hospice for all their kind and compassionate care.
