Alta M. Schultz, 87, of Genoa, Ohio, died Thursday, October 20, 2011, in Bay Park Community Hospital, Oregon, Ohio. Alta was born in Genoa on April 23, 1924, to Adolph and Caroline Asmus Niehaus. She married Charles F. Schultz in Genoa on April 23, 1947, and he preceded her in death on May 13, 1994. Born, raised and living her entire life on a farm, Alta had a great appreciation and love for the beauty of nature. She was the secretary for her church, St. Johns United Church of Christ in Genoa, for over 26 years retiring in 1988. She was involved in many activities at church including the Womens Fellowship and Church Consistory and was a Sunday School teacher. Alta was also involved with the former New Century Club of Genoa and worked for many years as a Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer. In earlier years she had worked for the former Commerce Guardian Bank in Toledo and Owens Illinois also in Toledo. Survivors of Alta include her, son, Frederick Schultz, daughter, Luanne George Duffey, daughter-in-law, Jenise Schultz, four grandchildren, and a great grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, as well as her grandson, John Schultz, brother, Ewald Niehaus, and sisters, Velma Niehaus and Esther Camper. A memorial service for Alta will be held at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, November 6, 2011, in the chapel of St. Johns United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington St. Genoa. Immediately following the service the family invites everyone for fellowship and a meal in the church hall. Alta will be interred privately next to her husband, Charles, in Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa. The family suggests that contributions in Altas memory be directed to the church. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory of Genoa is assisting the family with arrangements.
