Alpha Meek

Alpha Meek, 92, of Port Clinton, OH died Friday, February 27, 2009 at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center, Port Clinton. She was born on January 21, 1917 in Paintsville, KY to Arlando and Virgie Castle Brooks. On October 27, 1934 in Johnson County, KY she married Authie Meek, who preceded her in death on March 26, 1994. Alpha worked alongside her husband Authie Meek, Sr. in the pro shop at the Catawba Island Club for 27 years. She was a homemaker at heart and a wonderful mother and grandmother who always put her husband and children first. Survivors include: sons: Authie Meek, Jr. of Port Clinton, OH and Leonard Rose Meek of Nicholasville, KY; grandchildren: Brian Janice Meek, Brad Christine Meek, David Bobbiejo Meek, Jerry Stacy Vess, Jr., Greg Meek, Tammy, Pam Todd Selagrange, Jeffrey Suzanne Meek, and Anthony Lindsay Meek; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brother: Tom Brooks; sister: Alma Nicholes; son-in-law: Jerry Vess, Sr.; and special niece: Minnie Lou Billie Joe Preston. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Dr. Charles Meek, daughter: Irene Katherine Vess, infant daughter: Lorena Mae Meek; infant twins: Alice Marie and James Everett Meek, sisters: Bertha and Alta, and brothers: Carmon and James. Visitation will be Monday, March 2, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Port Clinton. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the funeral home by Reverend James Lehman. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery, Port Clinton, OH.
