Alois David Capko

Alois David Capko, 81, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at H. B. Magruder Hospital. David was born on September 16, 1932 in Lakeside, OH, the son of Joseph and Clara Boytim Capko. David graduated from Lakeside High School in 1950 and went on to graduate from Bowling Green State University, where he earned a Bachelors degree in education in 1963 and a Masters degree in 1968. On September 16, 1953 in Marblehead, OH, he married Lillian Wozniak and she survives. David worked as a math and history teacher for the Port Clinton City Schools for more than 30 years, retiring in 1992. He also worked at U.S. Gypsum, Erie Ordinance Depot and was the owner and operator of the fishing charter service Nastazia for 17 years. David loved life and all his accomplishments, especially his 30 years teaching math and history at Port Clinton High School. He was a very active member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Marblehead, OH, where he was very involved in helping with building the new church and was always there to help no matter what was needed. David called bingo at the church and enjoyed all the players and volunteers. He was a member of the Carpatho-Rusyu Society. David was a member of the Ottawa County Board of Elections, serving as chairman from 1974 to 1980. He enjoyed dart ball which he played at the Danbury churches, golf where he got a hole in one in October 1995 and always enjoyed the fellowship and comradery of the guys, wood working, yard work at which he was meticulous, fishing and bowling where he participated in the American Bowling Congress competition in Rochester, NY in 1956 with his team. He loved polka music and festivals. David played the accordion since the age of seven. He played in the Williams Accordion Band, Sandusky, OH. David will be greatly missed by his loving wife, family and friends. Survivors include: Loving Wife of 60 years: Lillian Capko of Port Clinton, OH; Brothers-in-Law: Adolph Wozniak of Fort Wayne; Edwin Lois Wozniak of Pemberville and Alfred Rosalyn Wozniak; Sister-in-law: Cecilia Jim Case of Las Vegas; Many Loving Nieces Nephews, Great-Nieces Nephews and Great-Great-Nieces Nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Allen Roger Capko. A Memorial service will be conducted at 10:00AM, Saturday, April 26th, 2014 at St. Marys Byzantine Catholic Church, Marblehead, OH. Interment will be in St. Marys Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Marblehead, OH. Memorial donations in memory of David may be given to Hospice of Memorial Hospital, Clyde, OH, H.B. Magruder Hospital, Fulton St., Port Clinton, OH 43452 or St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 506 E. Main St., Marblehead, OH 43440. Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory assisted the family with arrangements.
