Alma Tancinco

December 20, 1924 — October 6, 2010

TANCINCO Alma Alma Tancinco, born December 20, 1924 as Alma Pura Fernandez, beloved daughter of Leandro and Josefina Fernandez, died peacefully on the morning of October 6, 2010 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Preceded in death by brothers Leandro and Arturo and survived by adoring husband Dr. Benjamin C.; sisters, Gloria and Josefina; brother, Alberto; daughter, Mary Jane and husband, Jean-Claude; son, Benjamin F. and wife, Judy; grandsons, Benjamin D. and Jon; her passing resonates with waves of grief among family and friends. Avid art enthusiast, devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, world traveler, benefactor, scholar and educator, she will be honored and remembered as a seeker of truth. With deft hands guiding her brush, she sought artistic truth and her myriad paintings are but a small part of her legacy. With theological acuity, she sought spiritual truth, actively participating in bible study groups and coordinating the religious library at Our Lady Lourdes for over ten years. With an open mind and heart she sought cultural truth. Her worldly travels with husband Ben spanned five continents; she was invariably conversant in the native language. Well read and a college graduate, she sought scholastic truth, not just through personal study but by educating others, offering freely of her extensive knowledge to those around her, teaching English classes in the Philippines, and expounding on any subject with the greatest of ease. Only a true educator like Alma could have succeeded in teaching her son and daughter to swim without actually knowing how herself. She lived a truly blessed life and sought to share her blessings and good fortune with others through countless charitable contributions, as well as sponsoring disadvantaged youths abroad, staving off starvation and illness with sheer generosity. Now, late in her 86th year she takes one final earthly step in her endless pursuit of truth. Visitation hours will be held Sunday at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. from 2-4:00pm and 6-8:00pm with a 7:30pm Rosary service. Mass will be held on Monday at 10:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 6149 Hill Ave. Toledo, OH 43615. Her family requests any donations be sent to Our Lady of Lourdes.
