Allen Hotchkiss

July 9, 1940 — April 24, 2024

Allen H. Hotchkiss, 83, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born in Toledo to Allen and Winnie (Yarnell) Hotchkiss on July 9, 1940. Al attended the University of Toledo, majoring in Business Administration and where he played baseball for the Rockets. After taking a summer job in Washington DC, he returned to Toledo to continue his education. Al proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1963-1969. In between all of that, he married his high school sweetheart, Norma in 1964 and they were blessed with their daughter Lisa in 1966. He began working with H. Jerry Sawicki, who mentored him in the beginning of his career. He received his Ohio Real Estate Brokers license in 1971. This started a long and successful career in real estate and property management. Al formed Noral Realty and Property Management in 1983 and served as President of the Toledo Board of Realtors and was Realtor of the year in 1998. He was nominated in 1999 for Ohio Realtor of the year. Al was on several committees during his career. He served on The Professional Standards and Legislative committee of the Ohio Association of Realtors. He managed 800-1000 properties and was in the Million Dollar sales club almost every year until his retirement. His claim to fame was being featured on the TV show House Hunters.

Al was a very fit individual; spending much of his time exercising and working out. He prided himself on being “in shape”, however those who knew Al were aware that he often socialized more than hitting the weights. He was an avid runner, participating in several marathons and a tennis player for many years, even going to the National Championships with his local team. Between his workouts and tennis, Al also found time to get on the course to play a round or two of golf.

Al loved following his beloved Cleveland Indians, Detroit Lions, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was an awesome husband, father, brother, brother- in- law, father- in- law, uncle, and friend but his favorite title of all was “PaPa Al”. His greatest joy was always cheering on his grandchildren at their events. He also enjoyed traveling to anywhere there was sunshine, especially Aruba.

Surviving Al is his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Norma Hotchkiss; daughter, Lisa Hotchkiss-Faber; grandchildren, Christian Allen and Gabrielle Christine Faber; son -in -law Mark Faber: sister-in-law, Tina Baker-Fink (Phil), sister-in-law Delores Moore, many nieces and nephews and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Annabelle Christine Faber; brother, John Keiser; infant brother, James Keiser; brother-in-law, Raymond Moore; and parents-in-law, Lyman and Minnie Baker.

Friends will be received on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 9-11 am at Epworth United Methodist Church, 4855 Central Avenue, Toledo, OH 43615, where the Memorial Service will begin at 11 am. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Special Olympics or a charity of the donor’s preference.
