Allan James Avery, Sr.

Allan J. Avery, Sr., 83, of Oak Harbor, OH passed away Friday, December 15, 2023 at his home. He was born on July 15, 1940 in Toledo, OH to Ernest F. and Anna K. (Rafferty) Avery. On October 13, 1961 in Toledo he married Irene E. Martin, and she survives. Allan worked for the Boilermakers Local #85 out of Rossford, OH and worked all over the state of Ohio for 35 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Rocky Ridge, OH. Allan enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, playing cards, especially Euchre, and drinking beer, which he ordered by the pallet. Family was most important to him and he loved his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids who kept him going these last few years. Allan was known to be onery with a good sense of humor, but a good man at heart and provider for his family. He always had a nickname for those he liked, which will be remembered fondly.

In addition to his loving wife Irene of 62 years, Allan is survived by his children, Lorrie Richards, Allan (Tina) Avery, Jr., Vera (Steve) Snyder, Amy (Dave) Williams, Seidona (Darrell) Lather, Anna (Ryan) Hayes, Holly Avery, Lori (Dennis) Pepper, Kimberly Haviland, and David (Angie) Weldon, many grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Jack Avery, Richard “Cork” Avery, Ellean Shaneck, Charles Avery, Ernest Avery, Vera Schultz, and Donna Ireland, granddaughter, Hope and great granddaughter, Cora.

Visitation for Allan will be Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 2-8 p.m. at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor, OH. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Holli Burkard 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 21, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church, 450 Rocky Ridge Rd., Oak Harbor with burial to follow in Rusha Cemetery, Carroll Township, OH. Memorial contributions in memory of Allan may be given to St. John Lutheran Church, Rocky Ridge or D.B.A. (Diamond Blackfan Anemia) Foundation.
