Alice K. Schrider

Alice K. Schrider, age 99, a native and lifelong resident of Toledo, died November 8, 2015 at her home. She was born July 31, 1916 to the late Frank and Martha (Palicki) Kreft. Alice married John E. Schrider in 1946 and he died on October 27, 1968. A brother, Frank Kreft, and sister, Leona Laskowski, also preceded her in death. After graduating from St. Vincents Nursing School in 1938, Alice was employed as an occupational nurse at the DuPont Co. for 7 1/2 years. She later served as a nurse at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center for 18 years, retiring in 1986. Following retirement Alice volunteered at the hospital, mainly in palliative care, for nearly 15 years. She was a member of the St. Vincents Nursing Alumni Association, Medical Auxiliary and Associates of St. Marguerite. In her free time, Alice also enjoyed gardening, reading mysteries and spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving are her children, Joan Schrider-Sgro and John E. Schrider, Jr. (Ruth); grandsons, David and Daniel Schrider, Gaetan and Jonathan Sgro; and great granddaughters, Isla and Yasmine Sgro. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Alices funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Gesu Catholic Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd., Toledo. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center Auxiliary, 2213 Cherry St., Toledo, OH 43608.
