Alice Henning

December 29, 1928 — October 30, 2025

The earthly chapter in the life of Alice (Appt) Henning closed peacefully on October 30, 2025, as she entered eternal rest at the age of 96. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Alice left behind a legacy woven with love, faith, and selfless service. Born and raised in Rossford, Ohio, Alice moved to Toledo in 1951 upon marrying Rolland Henning (passed in 2002), her beloved partner for 50 years. Together, they built a home grounded in family and devotion to others.

Alice’s heart was a boundless library, overflowing with stories and wisdom she generously shared with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—who affectionately called her Gigi. A lifelong lover of books, she instilled that same passion in her family, from bedtime tales to carefully chosen novels that ignited curiosity across generations. This devotion extended to education itself: she proudly purchased every college textbook for her seven grandchildren, ensuring their pursuit of knowledge was never hindered.

After earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Bowling Green State University, Alice dedicated 20 years to the Toledo Public Schools as a librarian before retiring in 1989. An active member of the American Association of University Women, she championed education and community throughout her life. Known for her quiet selflessness, Alice touched countless lives with a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or a shared story.

Her warmth and grace endure in the hearts of her sisters, Nancy Stonerock and Joann Caswell; her children, Mark Henning (Terri), Beth Feher, and Gary Henning (Beth); her seven grandchildren Lauren Keipper, Collin Henning (Elizabeth), Ashley Soller, Andrew Feher (Kassandra), Alyssa Serge (Zack), Austin Henning (Jazmín) and Aarin Henning; and her eleven great-grandchildren, Lenna, Tala, Presley, Evander, Savannah, Cameron, Connor, Lucas, Logan, Sophia, and Henry.

Alice’s light continues to shine through the love of reading, the strength of family, and the beauty of kindness she so faithfully lived.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a future date. Memorials can be made to the Way Public Library, Perrysburg, Ohio or the Wood County Committee on Aging. The family wishes to thank Ohio Living Hospice and Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home for the final arrangements. Condolences may be made online to the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
