Alice Dermanelian Donaian

Alice, born in St. Catherines Ontario on February 18, 1922 as Zhaleig Sankimian, died peacefully March 8, 2018. Her mother, Pepron Artinian, and her father, Ruben Sankimian, separately immigrated to Canada after losing their respective families in the Armenian genocide in Turkey. They married and raised a new family in Canada. Alice is preceded in death by her husband Alfred, her daughter Harrietta, her grandsons Todd and Chris Smith, and her son-in-law, Mark Schaffer. She is survived by her son, Al, her daughter, Rubena, four grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. She will be interred in Detroit at Woodlawn Cemetery. Any desire to remember her may be in the form of contributions to the Armenian General Benevolent Union in New York, New York.
