Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints Our precious Mom, Alice Clay, age 89, was called home to Glory, to the loving arms of Jesus, her Savior and Lord, on April 19, 2011. Alice was born February 3, 1922, to Earl K. and Mabel Margaret Foltz Cone, in Hammond, Indiana. She was a long time Toledo resident. Alice grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and she graduated from Fort Wayne Bible Institute in 1944, where she met her future husband and received a degree in music. On June 30, 1944 she married Burley N. Clay, in Phoenix, Arizona. Burley was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel, and together Alice and Burley Clay went on to actively serve the Lord for 58 years in the pastorate of 6 churches in Arizona, California, Ohio and Michigan. Alice was dedicated to the cause of Christ and His calling upon her life. Alice was a prayer warrior, dedicated to world missions, and a gracious giver. Each family member was richer for her many prayers for us. She remained steadfast in prayer to the end of her life, that being her greatest gift to all who knew her. Alice filled many positions in the churches throughout the years, as well as helping numerous friends, neighbors and the community. Alice loved music, and for many years Alice sang with the Toledo Choral Society. She had many, many interests, but she took her greatest delight and joy in her Lord, her husband, Burley, and her family. Alice was the Mom of 6 children, all of whom survive her, Margaret James Motter, David Doris Clay, Rebecca Vernon Masters, Jonathan Anita Clay, Daniel Carolyn Clay, and Polly Darwin Dunten. She also leaves her 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives. Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Burley N. Clay, on September 10, 2010, her granddaughter, Elizabeth Motter, her parents, her brother, Richard Cone, her sister, Betty Cone, and other family members. We love our precious Mom, Grandma, and GG Ma, and we will miss her presence in our lives, her prayers, cookies, and cheery greetings, her beautiful smiles, and hugs. Although we miss her, she is not gone from our hearts, or our memories. She has gone home, but we will meet her again before the throne of our God, and we will worship our Lord and Savior together for eternity. Until then, farewell our beloved and precious Mom. We will love you all our days, treasure our memories of you, your life and purpose, and your wonderful and great sacrificial love for us, you were the best Mom. We thank God for giving you to us. Jesus doeth all things well, and in that we rest. The promise of our future together with our Lord is our Joy, and our Comfort, and we have been given immeasurable peace. Relatives and friends may visit at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., west of Corey Rd. on Friday, April 22, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Funeral Services will be held at Redeemer Community Church, 5321 Springdale Ave., Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday, April 23, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Darwin Dunten officiating.
