Alice Bondy

Alice Bondy, age 91, passed away June 17, 2012 at Heartland Holly Glen Care Center in Toledo. Alice was born to Robert and Emma Mellark on April 30, 1921 in Oak Harbor, OH. She and her husband, Duwaine, owned and operated Bondy Furniture Store in Downtown Toledo from the 1950s until the 1970s. After retiring from the furniture business, Alice worked at Meijer for a number of years where she enjoyed interacting with customers. Alice played bridge with the same ladies group for 50 years. She loved driving her car around town and eating out with friends. Alice was a wonderful cook and an avid gardener. She was very active with the Sylvania Senior Center and enjoyed spending time there. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Duwaine, and son, Dennis. She is survived by her son, Scott; his wife, Julia; and their children, Tegan and Morgan. She is also survived by Dennis wife, Barbara, and their children, Nick, James, and Alexandrea. Barbara was more of a daughter to Alice than daughter-in-law. She and her children were devoted caregivers after Dennis died, especially over the last several months while at the nursing home. Visitation will be on Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. from 10:00am until 12:30pm. There will then be a procession to St. James Church corner of Brockton and Sylvania Ave. following visitation, where a memorial service will begin at 1:00pm.
