Alfred W. Merritt, age 90, of Toledo, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. Born July 22, 1921 in McBain, MI to the late Walter and Lottie Burns Merritt, he married Betty J. Wright on Jan. 10, 1942 and she preceded him in death on March 8, 2006. Alfred worked from 1945-62 at the Autolite Co. and retired from Right Tool and Die in 1989 after more than 25 years of service. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Robinson Locke Lodge # 659 F. A.M., Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo, West Toledo High Twelve Club and American Legion Post 132. Alfred proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, and was a longtime member of the Lucas County Burial Corps. Surviving are his daughters, Sharon Quinn and Beth Mark Malinowski; grandson, Adam Tiffany Malinowski; and brother Calvin Janet Merritt. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters; and son-in-law, Grover Quinn. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue west of Corey Rd. where Masonic and American Legion memorial services will begin at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2012 in the funeral home with military rites conducted by the Lucas County Burial Corps and interment to follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
